License Terms
Version license-2026-10-22
1. What this license is
Tapiros ("we") owns or controls the rights in the music in the Tapiros catalogue. When you buy a license, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to play that music as background music at the locations you register, for the license period. You don't own the music, and you don't get any copyright in it.
2. Locations
A location is one physical place where customers or staff hear the music, at one street address. Each location on your license must be registered in your account with its business name and address. Different areas at the same address (for example a hotel's lobby, restaurant and spa) count as one location. Each branch at a different address is a separate location.
You may replace a registered location with another. The replaced location stops being covered from the time you replace it. Removing a location does not reduce the price you paid or entitle you to a refund; the number of locations you pay for can be lowered when you renew.
3. License period
Your license starts when we confirm your payment and lasts for the term you choose at checkout: 1, 2 or 3 years. Licenses don't renew automatically. If you renew before your license ends, the new term starts when the current one ends. Locations you add part-way through a term are charged by the day for the time left until the license's end date, so every location ends on the same day.
4. What you may do
- Play any track in the catalogue as background music at your licensed locations, through any in-store sound system.
- Stream full tracks on the Tapiros website and download MP3 and WAV files for this purpose.
- Make copies of downloaded files only as needed to play them at your licensed locations.
5. What you may not do
The standard license does not cover, and you may not:
- use the music in advertising, video, film, social media posts, livestreams or any synchronised content;
- broadcast it on radio or TV, or stream it publicly online;
- use it in apps, games, podcasts, online courses or other products;
- sell, share, sublicense, upload or otherwise distribute the files, or give them to anyone outside your business;
- present the music as your own, register it with any content-identification or collecting-society system, or remix it for distribution;
- play it at any location that is not registered on an active license.
If you'd like to use the music in any of these ways, email hello@tapiros.com and we'll discuss a separate license.
6. Performing rights organisations
Tapiros licenses its own music directly and does not register it with performing rights or collecting societies. This license covers background use of Tapiros tracks at your licensed locations. If you play music from other sources, you may still need licenses for that music.
7. When your license ends
When your license ends, or is ended under section 9, you must stop playing the music at your locations. Full playback and downloads on the website stop. You may keep files you downloaded, but they are not licensed for commercial use, and you must not play them in your business, until you renew. Your account, playlists and records are kept so that renewing restores access immediately.
8. Payment and refunds
Prices are shown in US dollars and are charged in full, for the whole term, at checkout. Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com, which is the Merchant of Record for all orders and adds any sales tax or VAT due. Because licenses are delivered immediately and every track can be previewed first, all sales are final, as described in our Refund Policy. A refunded or charged-back payment ends the license it paid for.
9. Ending the license
We may suspend or end your license if you break these terms, for example by sharing files or playing music at unregistered locations, after telling you what's wrong and, where it can be fixed, giving you a reasonable chance to fix it. We may end a license immediately for serious or repeated misuse.
10. Proof of license
Your account shows your license code, period and registered locations, and a certificate you can print. Each downloaded file's name and tags carry your license details. Keep your certificate available in case anyone asks what's playing.
11. Our promise and its limits
We promise that we have the right to grant this license for the tracks in the catalogue. If a third party claims that your licensed use of a track infringes their rights, tell us promptly; we will handle the claim, and may replace or remove the track. Apart from that promise, the music and the service are provided as they are, and to the extent the law allows, our total liability under this license is limited to the amount you paid for the current license period.
12. Changes and governing terms
We may update these terms for future purchases and renewals. The version you accepted at checkout applies to that purchase. These terms are part of, and read together with, our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
